"A Match Made in Heaven: Gaia and APOGEE for binary spectral analysis"

The Gaia mission has released a large catalogue of binary stars, containing spectroscopic, astrometric and eclipsing systems, as well as combination types. By combining this data with the APOGEE survey, we can look for evidence of SB2-ness in the spectra of these stars. APOGEE is particularly well suited to this task, as it has a high resolution and covers the infrared part of the spectrum, where particulaly dim, cool companions are more easily detected than in the optical. This lets us refine existing Gaia astrometric and spectroscopic solutions, identify interesting binary systems that may contain compact companions, and constrain additional stellar parameters. The work is currently underway, and I will update this page with any new findings.
