The Curious Case of NGC 1850 BH1

In 2021, Saracino et al. discovered a system with a potential dormant stellar mass black hole in NGC 1850, a cluster in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Subsequent discussion by El-Badry & Burdge and Saracino et al. (2023) has called the initial finding into question, highlighting the need for further observations and analysis. My work aims to analyse multi-epoch follow-up spectroscopic data gathered with VLT-FLAMES, and identify the components of the binary, constraining their formation histories and stellar parameters. This work is currently underway, and I will update this page with any new findings.
